Choosing Your Officiant

🌿When on the look for your perfect wedding officiant, fine someone who is meaningful to you or a professional who respects your expectations.
•
❤️Over the years I have seen so many people officiate, including the father of the groom, the family pastor, or even friends and family who have become ordained specifically so they could personally preform the ceremony. It’s that extra special touch, that makes your ceremony even more meaningful!
•
😎Alternatively, choose a professional who you vibe well with. There are lots of local officiants who I’ve worked with over the years, and I’d be more than happy to recommend a few to you! When choosing a professional officiant, you’ll want to find someone who respects your wishes. Most professionals have a specific way they like to conduct a ceremony, and others are much more flexible with specific requests.
•
🔍When you meet with your officiant the first time, whether it’s someone you know, or a professional, make sure you ask them how their ceremony usually goes, in detail. If they say that they can’t provide what you with want, move on. The most important thing is making sure that you are comfortable with your officiant! I can’t tell you how many weddings I’ve been apart of as (photographer, 2nd photographer, or guest), where the officiant said something religious to a non-religious couple. Or something “old fashioned” to a bride who is strong and independent with “new world” views.😬
•
Moral of the story. Find an officiant that suites you. Don’t expect you know what they will say. Discuss what they usually do and don’t be shy to tell them what your expectations are. A great officiant is one that listens to what you want, then makes it happen!
•
Bonus tip: You have to obtain your own wedding license. Your officiant can not provide that for you. It takes some time to get one as well, so don’t wait until the last minute to get your wedding license!
